Tweeter Is Not Real Life is a persona mode, not a historical era. It replaces the game's voters with the twenty-four social-media commentators who write the game's Tweeter feed. The mode is chosen from the Persona Mode selector on the setup screen. It is also described on this wiki's toggle page, Tweeter Is Not Real Life. In this mode, the commentators replace the voters, the state-by-state map is randomised, and the stakeholder groups become online discourse coalitions.

How the cast is built

The commentators are the same twenty-four accounts that write the Tweeter feed in a modern game. In this mode, each one is given a voter's attributes: an age, a description, a home, and a position on the five-step scale from strong Democrat to strong Republican.

Each commentator has only one voice. There is no separate exaggerated version of their description, so Whacko Mode cannot be combined with this mode; the setup screen's selector allows only one of the two to be chosen at a time.

The thirty stakeholder groups in this mode are online coalitions. They include the Dissident Right, the Manosphere, the Joe Rogan Audience, the Rationalists, the Rainbow Flag Brigade, and the BreadTube Streamer Left. Each group's membership reflects which commentators would realistically belong to it.

The map

The state-by-state map in this mode is deliberately randomised. Each state's mix of commentators is generated at random, reflecting the idea that online commentators are not distributed the way real geographic America is. Every state's underlying partisan lean is also neutral, rather than reflecting real political geography. As a result, the electoral map has no built-in political pattern of its own; its pattern comes only from where the commentators happen to be placed. Elections are still scored state by state in this mode, because district-level scoring depends on the modern cast of voters, who do not exist here.

What it overrides

This mode takes priority over the choice of era. It sets the cast of characters for the whole game regardless of which decade the game is set in, so the commentators can judge a 1950s, 1960s or 1970s presidency just as readily as a modern one. It also means that a game which would otherwise change cast part-way through, such as the Nineties cast handing over to the 2000s cast, keeps the same twenty-four commentators for the whole game instead.

The mode is premium. If a player without premium selects it, the game runs with Persona Mode set to Off instead. The mode is not offered on the career builder, which resets the Persona Mode selector to Off.
