Anna Kasparova is the younger co-host of an online progressive news programme in Los Angeles and is Armenian-American. She wants the Democratic Party to move further left but continues to vote for it, representing the loyal wing of the online left.
Who they stand for
Anna stands for the online progressive audience that formed around internet news shows during the Bush years and came of age with the Sanders presidential campaigns of 2016 and 2020. Members of this audience are typically renters under forty living in expensive cities, are college-educated, carry personal debt, and watch YouTube rather than cable television. They wanted a Medicare for All health system and the Green New Deal, they treated the Supreme Court's Dobbs decision of 2022 as a moment that mobilised them politically, and many split from older liberals over the war in Gaza after October 2023. Los Angeles has the largest Armenian diaspora population in the country, and events such as the federal recognition of the Armenian genocide in 2021 and the fall of Nagorno-Karabakh in 2023 register with Anna as tests of whether a president will support a small nation over a strategic ally.
Anna differs from Hasan Radical and Viltch because she still votes for the Democratic Party and says so openly. She differs from Cenk Ulusoy in her age and in her calmer manner. She is the person on her programme who names the excesses of the left by name.
Playing to them
A president wins Anna's support with economic policy that names a clear opponent, such as a public health insurance option, a wealth tax, stronger union protections, student-debt relief, and a visible refusal to take a phone call from a political donor. She expects abortion access and LGBTQ protections as a baseline requirement, not as something a candidate earns extra credit for. She does not forgive a bailout of large corporations, a retreat on abortion rights, or unconditional military aid to Israel during a war that harms civilians, and she notices when a Democrat governs like a Republican on immigration. Because she also criticises excesses on the left, a president who compromises and is attacked for it by more radical online commentators loses her support more slowly than he loses the support of Hasan Radical.
Winning Anna's support costs the support of Ben Shindler, Matt Scots and Candace Overton, who see her programme as hostile to them, and the support of Bronze Age Deviant, who sees it as weak. A policy move on Israel that pleases Anna costs the support of Ben Shindler and Barbara Wise outright.
