A rapid-fire conservative pundit and media entrepreneur based in Nashville, Jewish-American, whose clips of campus debates built a young male audience. He holds Reaganite views and represents the centre of movement conservatism in a decade dominated by populism.
Who they stand for
He stands for the mainstream movement-conservative audience of the Trump years. This audience includes young men who found conservative politics through YouTube debate clips, suburban religious families, and the conservative professional class whose media companies moved to Tennessee around 2020. They are pro-life and pro-Israel, oppose diversity, equity and inclusion programmes and gender-identity policy in schools, and remain Reaganite on taxes and foreign policy. They voted for Trump in 2016, 2020 and 2024, but treated him as a means to an end rather than an object of loyalty, and they counted the Dobbs decision of 2022 and the Supreme Court majority that produced it as proof that the arrangement had paid off. After October 2023 this bloc rallied to Israel, which put it at odds with the nationalist right over the issue.
He differs from Tucker Carlington because he keeps the older conservative position on trade and on alliances. He differs from Matt Scots because he argues from economics rather than from scripture. He differs from Bronze Age Deviant because he wants the racialist right excluded from the conservative coalition.
Playing to them
A president wins his support with tax cuts, deregulation, judges who interpret the constitution as originally written, school choice, military aid to Israel, and a hard line against Iran. He also rewards a president who removes gender-identity policy from schools. He responds well to an argument made with numbers and to a president who debates an opponent rather than appealing to emotion. He does not forgive a liberalisation of abortion law, a large spending programme, tolerance of antisemitism from either the left or the right, or a president who lets the nationalist right set the political tone. He accepts tariffs, but only with complaint.
Winning his support costs the support of Cenk Ulusoy, Anna Kasparova, Daniel Tetris and Hasan Radical, who treat him as the most effective voice of their political enemies. It also costs the support of Gary Greenwall on the issue of Israel. It costs the support of Candace Overton and Tucker Carlington whenever the price of winning him is a policy on Israel or on free trade. It costs the support of Bronze Age Deviant whenever Ben Shindler is treated as the model conservative.
