Tweeter is the game's social-media platform: a feed, opened from a tile on the dashboard, in which the era's voters, a cast of pundits, anonymous accounts and the newspapers react to the month just played. There is no setup-screen switch for it. It turns on automatically for a premium account playing in the modern era, and stays off for earlier eras. A free account cannot turn it on, but the feed switches on as soon as a free player upgrades.
When it appears
The feed only exists from the mid-2000s onward, so it does not appear at all for the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s or 1990s, or for an early-2000s game before its platform launch year.
The feed
Each time the feed is opened, it generates tweets covering the previous month from a mix of voters, pundits and anonymous or newspaper accounts, all reacting to that month's event, the President's policy and how it played out, and recent history. A voter's tweet is written in the same voice as that voter's usual reaction, so it changes along with Whacko Mode. The feed is organised into tabs: For You, Politics, Pundits, News, Trending, Messages and My Tweets.
Posting and replies
The President can post once a month, within a set character limit, and voters and pundits reply in character, each supportive, hostile or sarcastic depending on who they are. A post has a small effect on approval. Direct messages can also be sent to any voter or pundit in the cast, and each replies in character, remembering the conversation so far.
Free accounts
A free account never sees the feed itself. Instead, at a few points across a game, the dashboard shows a small card of pundit reactions to the month, as a preview of what the full feed offers.
Career Mode
In Career Mode, a state governor gets the same feed from the same starting year, posting under a handle built from the governor's own name, with everything else in the feed scaled down to state level. Citizens and candidates have no feed. As of the current build, a governor whose career began before the feed's start year sometimes sees the dashboard tile appear without the feed actually loading; this has not yet been fixed.
Access
Every part of Tweeter requires a premium account. Workshop packs can force it on or off.
